• Welcome to our Blog!

We are Mike + Heather Krakora, two best friends that get to work, play and laugh together everyday. How lucky is that? We live in Madison, Wisconsin with our two vivacious boys, two very fluffy dogs and a bullfrog named Bob. We absolutely love what we do – photographing people at such pivotal points in their lives is a huge honor.

Our blog is where we will post all of the recent happenings in our lives and in the lives of our clients. So don't be shy, leave a comment.  We love comments, they make us smile.  :o)

Creativity: A Project

During the winter months, I have this tendency to hibernate like many good people in Wisconsin. With the hibernation comes idea storms and a bunch of really weird energy. For those of you who have spoken with me recently will know what I am talking about. This is the time when the artist side of me starts to loom. One day I will be filled with the mean reds (rememeber “Breakfast at Tiffany’s?”) and the next I am bouncing off the wall with crazy ideas. So when a good friend and fellow photographer, Jennifer Hassrick, contacted me about participating in a creativity workshop, I was really excited. Finally! An outlet! And in the winter no less.:)

Here is a couple of shots from our first assignment. Our next class is tomorrow with our fantastic leader Carol Chase-Bjerke, and I can’t wait!

For all of the Moms and moms to be

I recently came across this video essay by Katherine Center with photos by The Shutter Sisters for the Mom Summit that will be held this month in Houston. Watching this caused a certain pain (not necessarily a bad pain) in my heart and honestly, made me cry. People told me when I was pregnant with our first son that being a mother is hard, but rewarding. You will feel love like you never have before, the smell of their hair is unlike anything. You know, the things that everyone tells you before you become a parent. I took it all in. Okay. Sure. I love this child, he is not born yet, but I know this child and I always have. But I still had no idea what was coming.

Enter 8 years, another son and a business later. I have reached a time in my life where I realize that they are indeed growing up. 5 and 8 is not that old, but it seems that way when you are up to your eyeballs in running a business, being a wife and trying your hardest to be the best mother that you can. These moments are fleeting. I have sworn to take more time for myself and my family this year and less time dwelling on my regrets.

I am so greatful that I found this. The least I can do it share it with every possible person that I can.

casey - I love it, Heather. This was just what I needed right now.

Katherine + Michael :: Married!! {madison wedding photographer}

I first met Katherine around a year ago when she had contacted me to design her save the dates. Some of you may know that before I was a photographer, I was a graphic designer – always will be, I guess.;)She was so sweet and went into great detail about how she really wanted her save the dates to have a night time owl theme to match an antique plate that her and Michael had. Owls are a symbol of many things to Katherine + Michael and it was only appropriate that you could find owls through out their wedding. I knew her wedding day was going to be amazing. Their priority for their wedding day was not themselves, but rather their guests. They wanted each guest to feel special.

We awoke the morning of their wedding to a world covered in hoer frost. It was like the world was made out of crystal. I knew Katherine would be excited about it! When we arrived at her home, we were greeted by about 15 deer.

I spent a lot of time walking back and forth between shooting Katherine’s details and her getting her makeup put on. Along the way was her father’s office. I love this moment of him concentrating so hard while working on his speech for later that night.
Katherine + Michael had put together gift bags for their guests, they were filled with so many wonderful things! Gail Ambrosius hot chocolate mix and hand-made marshmallows, wine, Michael’s favorite recipe of Katherine’s cookies and the mix to go with it was just some of what was inside. So sweet and thoughtful.
I have said it once, and I will say it many more times to come. I L-O-V-E the energy that happens before a wedding. The air is electric with nervous energy. Katherine had and electrical storm around her. It’s been a while since I have seen a bride this nervous.:D
But once she walked down the aisle and was met by Michael, I am pretty sure she forgot about how nervous she was. How could you not when you are greeted by a sweet kiss on the hand?
And now is the time for the amazing details from the reception. So many amazing vendors came together to create a truly unique and memorable affair.

What we did in November :: The Bebbinar

Mike and I participated in such an inspiring seminar during the beginning of November. I was a bit stressed out about the timing of it all. We dropped everything in the middle of crazy season and took a week to concentrate on our business and our creativity, not to mention US. Many people ask how we can work together. Truth is, we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love working together. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. We work a lot. Really. A LOT! Sometimes it is really hard to separate personal life and work life. Spending time with Jen and Steve Bebb was extrememly worth every minute. They are such an inspiring couple. They hit the ground running 10 years ago and have never looked back. It was so refreshing to hear stories from another married couple who works together, to hear that they struggle with the same things that we do and how they have gotten through some pretty difficult times. The Bebbs are two truely inspiring people who come together to make an amazing couple. In the next three months of our “down” season we will be working to implement many of the things that they shared with us. I can not wait to see what this year holds.

Here are a few shots from a shoot we did while at the workshop. Vancouver light is pretty…

I think about 80% of the time was spend laughing. Jen and Steve’s passion for their work and for each other is contagious.

Rebecca Whitney - These are fabulous!!! I’m so so so happy I met you both, and those three days were so inspiring in a thousand ways!!!
